“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing”. – Edmund Burke.
I have been accused in the past of being someone who puts my head in the sand and just ignores all that is wrong with the world around me. This is not at all true.
It is true that I do not watch the nightly news on TV. I don’t read newspapers, or magazines for that matter. I don’t listen to the radio. I am not the least bit interested in current affairs. I get some “news” type info from social media but I certainly do not actively seek it. So yeah.. I can see why some would think that I am doing nothing when it comes to the evils of this world.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
As a student of New Thought, it is my firmly held belief that what we put our attention on increases. And that also means even if we are against what we are putting our attention on, we are still feeding it with energy. The war on drugs for example, has not halted the use of illegal drugs. The war on terror, has not bought anymore Peace into anyone’s lives. As Mother Teresa once famously said,
“I was once asked why I don’t participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I’ll be there.”
You don’t cure the darkness by adding more darkness….. the only way to solve darkness is to add light.
So whilst it might appear that I have my head in the sand and am doing “nothing”…. Nothing could be further from the truth. I am placing my focus on the light. On love. On Peace. On remaining as positive as I can . On raising my vibration and furthering my spiritual development, for the betterment of all on planet Earth.
I focus on nature, and on beauty, and on being a calm port in a storm of negativity.
Me reading the newspaper or watching the nightly news will do nothing to solve the problems of which they speak. My knowledge of the situation, will not add to it’s solution one bit. So whilst it might appear that I am just burying my head in the sand, I am in fact “turning the other cheek”… and giving my attention, and therefore my energy, to the world being a better place.
I know that there are many in this world who can not understand this, or appreciate how and why it works. But their lack of understanding does nothing to dissuade my faith in the process of creation. They are “fighting the good fight” in their own way and in a way that they believe helps. I admire their dedication. I only wish they could see there is only ever two things you can be… part of the problem, or part of the solution. And by adding to the fear and the hysteria and overall negativity of the world… despite their very best of intentions, they are merely another part of the problem.
There’s saying I love….”If you can do something to change the situation, do it. If you can not, then it’s none of your business”.
