I have always held the belief that there is more than one way to look at any subject.
That is obviously true of photography… whereby I will usually take many shots of the same subject, from all kinds of different angles, searching for the best perspective, to land the best shot.
But it is also very true of life. Everything we gaze upon, we see through the eyes of our own unique viewpoint… tainted by our own unique experiences of life and the conditioning of our upbringing.
But there is always more than one way to view any subject. In fact, I believe that there are as many ways to view a subject as there are individuals on the planet.
I can try to show you the world as seen through my eyes, with my photographic images… but I can never know how you will receive them. What I see when I look upon an image, may not be what you see, even when it is the exact same image. I have actually had people point things out to me in my work, that I didn’t even notice at first (and I might have been working with that image for quite some time).
Please never underestimate the value and importance of being able to look at the world through the eyes of another. What an incredible learning and growing experience… and thanks to platforms such as WordPress… oh so easy to do.
Just because you think you know how to look at something… doesn’t mean there aren’t alternatives… viable… valuable alternatives. Who knows… you may just see something in a way you have never seen it before. What a gift.
