Down Time….
ByI am right in the middle of a very hectic and somewhat stressful week. I have SO much to do in the next few days and I am honestly feeling the pressure.
However….. I have come to learn the importance of a little “down time” each and everyday. And the serious need to laugh as often as humanly possible. The benefits of laughing have long been medically and scientifically proven, but for me… I just like the way it feels. I like the way I feel after a good laugh. And most importantly, I like the way it bonds me to the people I am sharing the laugh with.
My son and I have a daily ritual. No matter whatever craziness is going on in our busy schedule, we find at least half an hour a day to sit and watch something funny. At the moment it’s the Office. But it doesn’t really matter what it is, as long as it makes you feel good and happy. We use it as our bonding time. We even have our own secret language developed over years of watching various sit-coms together. We have many quotes and references that can come up in the course of a day, and when they do, we both have a little chuckle and it just serves to lift and brighten any mood.
Sit-coms might not be your thing…. and that’s cool. But I firmly believe that no matter how busy and hectic life might get, it is vitally important to squeeze a little down time into each day, each week. Given that we all know how important our health (mental and physical) is…. there is really no excuse good enough, not to take care of ourselves in this way.
So my advice to anyone is……
LAUGH LOUD
LAUGH OFTEN
and most importantly
LAUGH WITH SOMEONE YOU CARE ABOUT.

I agree, Tracie, it is so important to spend time with your children whenever you can. I make it a point every time I talk to my kids (now grown) on the phone to tell them I love them before I hang up. None of us every really knows if that will be our last goodbye.
I hope the cause of your stress subsides soon, and you’ll be back to normal. I know how you feel, when there is always so much to do, and so few hours in a day. But alas, there is always tomorrow … I hope!
My mum always taught me to say “I love you” to those who matter as often as possible and always as we part…. like you said, you never know if it will be the last time. And yes.. I am sure the stress will ease soon… I am already feeling better…. thanks so much.
Yes, Husband, Son and I did that a lot – watching something funny every day – then we stopped doing it, so thanks for the timely reminder as Husband is coming home for the day. We love the series Black Books!
That photo of the kookaburra is fantastic – where was this?
Thanks…. the pic was taken at Montville in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Yes, we like Black Books also. Mark and I have a warped sense of humour that my hubby doesn’t really understand, so he gets to feel a little left out sometimes. But all 3 of us like Big Bang Theory
As of late I have become an on site Rep. For where I am living. Speaking of stress. I have to deal with movie company and their demand upon the location,(5 locations plus very expensive vintage cars), so I feel your stress, And the only thing that get me through, is knowing, believing God is in control! Wow and that is just the right medicine for me
Having faith seriously helps me as well. I really don’t know how people without a faith cope. Thanks so much for commenting.

I make myself available to my clients 24/7. In order to do that, I schedule personal time each day so that I never get burned out with work. As my wise old grandmother said, “If you love what you do, it’s not work. It’s a career.”
I just adore what I do, and sometimes… like this past weekend, it is absolutely exhausting, but it never feels like “work”.
